2nd Annual Hmong Cake Decorating Challenge
Ever dreamed of competing on Iron Chef? Or perhaps you have a passion for cakes beyond eating them? In the spirit of a Food Network Challenge, local proprietors Fhoua Yang and Kao Yee Xiong of Cakes By Fhoua will be hosting the 2nd Annual Hmong Cake Decorating Challenge at CHAT Arts Festival.
If you think you have the creativity and the chops to win, submit a design idea for a Hmong-inspired cake between July 1-31, 2008. The top cake designers will be invited to strut their stuff on Saturday, August 16, 2008 in front of a live audience as they compete to win first place in this inaugural competition. Cakes by Fhoua will provide all decorators with baked cakes, buttercream frosting, and three hours to decorate a cake that fits in with CHAT’s theme of “Hmongland.”
All cake designs must use 75% of the cakes provided by Cakes By Fhoua and be a minimum of 18 inches in height. Designs will be judged on presentation, creativity, technique, use of materials, appearance, and the overall incorporation of the theme as it relates to the Hmong. Anyone interested should complete a registration form along with their design. All submissions may be sent to Cakes by Fhoua, 1075 Arcade Street, Saint Paul, MN 55106 or emailed to challenge@cakesbyfhoua.com.
The winner of this competition will be given a spread in Hmong Today, an award, and have their cake design featured in Cakes by Fhoua’s Hmong-inspired line.
